Inside Keyzo: An Interview with Jay
Jay Zarraga is one of our Full Stack Software Developers and plays a key role in building and improving our digital products. Since joining the team, he’s been putting his skills to work across both front-end and back-end development, helping to create seamless user experiences.
We had a chat with Jay to gain some insights into his current role, and his journey so far.
What does your role involve as a Software developer with Keyzo?
As a Software Developer at Keyzo, I work across the stack, developing scalable backend, while building engaging user interfaces. I ensure seamless integration between the backend and frontend while maintaining high code quality and contribute to innovative solutions for clients.
Did you have any relevant experience prior to joining the company?
With the type of product solution, no. But in terms of tech stack, I have spent a couple of years building other types of PHP applications, using core and frameworks, alongside Vue for frontend. So, having that foundation gave me the confidence to apply for the role.
How has Keyzo helped you develop your skills and knowledge since you started?
Keyzo has provided me with a fantastic environment to grow both my skills and knowledge. Working on diverse projects has exposed me to new challenges and pushed me to refine both of those aspects and more, especially with the introduction to modern technologies.
The collaborative team culture and access to experienced colleagues have been instrumental in expanding my understanding of best practices, efficient workflows, and innovative solutions. Additionally, the company encourages continuous learning, which has helped me stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends.
Who inspires you the most?
This might sound biased, but I’d say everyone in the team inspires me. Their continuous drive for excellence in their respective roles motivates me to push myself further and match their passion for delivering innovative solutions. It’s truly uplifting to work alongside such dedicated and talented individuals.
What do you like most about your software developer role?
It has always been the opportunity to help solving problems and turning ideas into an impactful solution. I enjoy the creativity involved in building something from the ground up or fixing existing ones, and most importantly, the constant learning.
What has been your personal highlight since joining Keyzo?
So far, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in developing brand-new features and solutions, from conceptualisation to delivery, which has been incredibly rewarding. It’s allowed me to take ownership of my work, apply my skills in meaningful ways, and make a difference.
How do you find working remotely and how does Keyzo support you as a remote worker?
Working remotely has been great, and it offered the flexibility and work-life balance. Keyzo has been extremely supportive in this regard and ensures we have the resources needed to perform at our best, no matter where we’re based.
What advice would you give someone either thinking of becoming a software developer, or applying for one of our vacancies?
My advice for anyone thinking of becoming a Software Developer would be to embrace continuous learning. The tech industry is always evolving, so staying curious and adaptable is essential.
I’d also recommend building a solid foundation in the core technologies, but also being open to learning new ones, as every project can present different challenges.
And based on experience, it is important to develop and demonstrate the core values that Keyzo stands for.
